About these Pictures This file is for use with the Monterey Museum of Natural History flower pictures. These (350) pictures were taken at the Flower Show at the Monterey Museum of Natural History on April 18-20, 1997. They were taken using a Minolta RD-175 digital camera. This camera has a default resolution of 1500 by 1700 pixels; these pictures were resized to fit on a computer screen (640 by 480) and saved as JPEG files using Adobe Photoshop. (See below for comments on "L" in the file name, which indicates the use of the full pixel size.) Unfortunately, the photographer was not allowed to move the flower samples, hence had to use the existing lighting and background, which resulted in a lower contrast and depth of focus picture than would be desired. The pictures have been placed in a HTML file and hence are displable by either Netscape or Internet Explorer. Insert the CD into your CD reader and type: G:\MONTJPEG\MONTEREY.HTM, where G is the letter of your CD drive. Hitting enter will bring up the first page with its introduction, which should include a small beautiful picture of Vallium Crispum, Crinkled Onion, Liiiaceae and some information. Below this is a (scrolling) list of the flower pictures available, with each flower name acting as a button to the picture. The complete list of pictures available is found in the file: g:\montjpeg\montalls.txt and this file should be printed for your future reference. N.B. Some of the files have a name that contains a "L" (e.g. MG-5L) and all picture files have the suffex: .jpg . Those files that have a "g" in them (e.g. 5G-58) are pictures of the grasses that were collected at the Show. These pictures are all of multiple (4--6) grasses in one picture and hence are best viewed in the "L" form for details.
