Scot graduated from The Evergreen State College in 1995, emphasis in botany and mycology. He then worked as a botanist for various entities; since 1998 he has been an independent biological consultant, working primarily under contract for the federal government (mostly the BLM and Forest Service). He has discovered multiple species new to science, including two new genera of fungi. He is based out of southern Oregon.
Special interests/expertise: Scot's primary interests are in lichens, bryophytes, and fungi (especially sequestrate species), specifically rare and sensitive species.
