Dean Wm. Taylor

Dean developed an interest in botany, and began collecting plants as a teenager in the Sierra, and studied with G. Ledyard Stebbins and Jack Major at Davis for the Ph.D. California has the most unique flora in the Northern Hemisphere. How can a single county in California have more endemic species than the entire state of Texas or the New England region? How many more new species remain to be discovered in California, and where are they likely to be found? Most importantly, how can we conserve this diverse flora in the face of a rapidly growing population?
