Roger specialized in growing lewisias in Vancouver, British Columbia and had a particular interest in Lewisia tweedyi. He spent over thirty years exploring the Wenatchee and Entiat Mountains of Washington State, and Yosemite, Colorado, cataloguing the distribution and colour forms. He published jointly with the University of British Columbia on Lewisia tweedyi in 1997. He passed away on May 31, 2011 and his extensive collection of plants is now owned by the UBC Botanical Garden (Alpine Garden) in Vancouver, British Columbia.
