Richard Spellenberg resides in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He retired from the Biology Department, New Mexico State University, in 2000 after 32 years. His specialties are Nyctaginaceae, oaks of the Sierra Madre, Astragalus, and Southwestern plants. He has authored several plant books directed toward the amateur, the most recent The Sunflower Family (a guide to genera of the family in the contiguous U.S.).
Special interests: I have studied regional Nyctaginaceae, Quercus, and Astragalus. I mostly photograph Southwestern plants and US genera of the Asteraceae.
