Kai Palenscar is currently a graduate student (Ph. D. candidate) at UC Riverside within Dr. Jodie Holt's Weed Ecology Lab. His research will begin in fall 2008 and encompass the broad topic of weed plant ecology in southern CA riparian systems. Giant reed (Arundo donax) will be his focus with the goal of eradication in favor of native riparian habitat restoration. With past experience as a Restoration Ecologist with BonTerra Consulting (http://www.bonterraconsulting.com/), Kai continues his study of both native and non-native plant systems of southern CA with his ultimate goals being focused on habitat preservation, restoration and continued social education of inhabitants of the urban/wildland interface.
Special interests: The ecology of invasive species of southern California, specifically giant reed (Arundo donax).
