|James Morefield attended Deep Springs College in eastern California 1979-1981, completed a B.S. in Botany and Geology at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, in 1986, and a Ph.D. in Botany from Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden and the Claremont Graduate School in 1992. He has made scientific collections and photographs of plants extensively throughout the North American deserts for 35+ years, and has studied intensively the flora of the White Mountains and adjacent areas of California and Nevada. Since 1991 he has been Botanist for the Nevada Natural Heritage Program in Carson City, Nevada.|
|Special interests: Generally familiar with vascular plants of arid southwestern North America and surrounding mountains; expertise with the White Mountains of CA-NV and adjacent areas, and with rare plants of Nevada and the Great Basin; expertise with Asteraceae; wrote the treatments of Ancistrocarphus, Chaenactis, Chamaechaenactis, Diaperia, Filago, Hesperevax, Logfia, Micropus, Micropsis, Psilocarphus, and Stylocline for Flora of North America North of Mexico and The Jepson Manual.|
