David Wake was an amphibian biologist in the Department of Integrative Biology and Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, University of California at Berkeley. He has studied salamanders for about 40 years, concentrating on the lungless salamanders, Plethodontidae, especially those in western North America and in Middle America. He has been active in promoting studies of factors related to declining amphibian populations.
