location
Upper Buckeye Canyon, San Bruno Mountain (San Mateo County, California, US)family
Hydrophyllaceae
notes Per the Jepson eFlora description, note the distinctive leaves with ''lobes 5--7, deep, generally round, stalked, generally well separated, entire to 1--3-toothed''. Two flowers are visible (one barely open) on their relatively long pedicels. These were growing near a brook flowing through a localized gorge high up in Buckeye Canyon. The species wasn't yet on Doug Allshouse's San Bruno Mountain plant list (dated 2/20/21). Floodwaters from the torrential rainstorms in January 2023 completely scoured away all vegetation within an appreciable periphery of the watercourse here, including where this was growing...but hopefully the species persists on San Bruno Mountain. Also visible in this photo are some bronze-colored, bi-lobed leaves of Pterostegia drymarioides. photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
