notes A 'congested' flower head of Plectritis congesta (other species also have congested heads...but this one got the epitaph). A distinctive character of P. congesta is its very short (to obsolecent) corolla spur underneath the upper lip and in front of the corolla tube. A longish variation is illustrated in Fig. 5062 of Abrams, and a shorter variation appears in the line drawing on the 2nd page of this USDA Fact Sheet. In this photo the spur can be seen as a tiny nub on lowest flowers to the left and right. See also this labelled companion image. photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
