notes This photo shows two of the small, translucent, pentagonal staminal filament-bases, which are ciliate along their distal edges. In the photo, each one has a few small, globular, off-white ovules sticking to it (due to my somewhat unpracticed dissection technique ;-). The pentagonal bases of the five stamens lie flat against the top of the ovary covering it at the bottom of the corolla tube. For each filament, a narrow thread-like distal portion extends upward from the distal tip of the basal pentagon, and holds the anther up against the style & stigmas. But those thread-like portions have broken off the filament-bases here.photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
