  • date of photo  May 6, 2023
  • location   Arroyo Bayo watershed (Santa Clara County, California, US)
  • family Boraginaceae
  • notes   Id'ed in the field by Dylan Neubauer...this plant had herbage with a more light-gray cast than other Amsinckia nearby, presumably due to its hairs. Among some of the diagnostic characters gleaned from the Jepson eFlora Key to Amsinckia are: calyx lobes ┬▒ equal in width, 5, not fused above base; leaf not succulent, generally entire; corollas relatively small, ┬▒yellow (rather than orange).

Unfortunately, perhaps partly due to the overcast & intermittently drizzly weather, the plants here didn't seem to have any flowers open (although plants of other Amsinckia species nearby did have conspicuously open flowers).
