  • location   A few miles southeast of Kyburz, near China Flat Campground (El Dorado County, California, US)
  • family Saxifragaceae
  • notes   Inflorescence of Darmera peltata...as usual the plants were growing in the shallow waters at the edge of the creek.

    If you look carefully at the flower at upper center of the full-size photo, you'll see a small black-winged insect...it's a sawfly, Cephus cinctus. Larger images of it can be found under this BugGuide post.
