Kuntze, Astragalus vegliensis Sadler - Habitat: mountain slope, southeast aspect, garrigue, road side; stony, calcareous ground; warm, sunny, dry place; elevation 245 m (805 feet); average precipitations ~ 1.000 mm/year, average temperature 11-13 deg C, Sub-Mediterranean phytogeographical region. - Substratum: soil among rocks and stones. - Comment (pertains to Flickr album Astragalus muelleri): The genus Astragalus is huge. About 3.000 species are known, which are grouped into two or three hundred subgroups (with no generally accepted taxonomic system). The genus is spread all over the world. Many taxa are endemic and rare. Such is also Astragalus muelleri, a Mediterranean floral element, known only from Croatia and Italy manly on east Adriatic islands. Its locus classicus is on Krk Island, northeast neighbor of Cres. This is reflected in some of synonym names '…. vegliensis'. Veglia is Italian name of Krk island. Astragalus muelleri is a plant loving very dry and stony places. This year (2022) the spring season (at least in this part of the island) was particularly dry, so the flowering was unfortunately not very exuberant. - Ref.: (1) T.
