INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  May 3, 2022
  • location   Edgewood County Park and Natural Preserve (San Mateo County, California, US)
  • family Asteraceae
  • notes   Detail of a fruiting head and pappus of Uropappus lindleyi.

Note the relatively long scale body and much shorter terminal bristle (arista). The arista is attached at the sinus of the (somewhat minutely) bifid tip of the pappus scale, and the pappus scale is silvery-white and without inrolled lateral margins. Also, the (beige) midrib of each scale tapers gradually from its somewhat thickened base. And the cypsela is mildly tapaering apically, so that the fruits are mildly beaked. (All the proceeding characters distinguish the pappus of Uropappus from that of Microseris.)
