notes The Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Passer montanus, is a passerine bird slightly smaller than the House Sparrow, with a rich chestnut crown and nape, and a black patch on each pure white cheek. Passer montanus saturatus, described by Leonhard Hess Stejneger in 1885, breeds in Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.
