location
Near confluence of Bubbs & Wood Creeks, Kings Canyon National Park (Fresno County, California, US)notes Based on studying the CaliforniaHerps web site my best shot at the species ID here is Sceloporus occidentalis taylori. Although the individual here isn't a perfect match for any of the individual photos there, the scales do have fairly long 'spines'. The location here falls well within the range indicated for the 'Sierra Fence Lizard' (= ssp. taylori)...but I'm just posting to species as the CaliforniaHerps page indicated there's currently some question regarding the subspecies circumscription. CA lizards often show too much variation for me to feel totally confident in a species ID. If anyone finds the ID is in error here, please let me know and I'll endeavor to correct it. photo category: Animal - Reptile
