Nyman - Habitat: stony abandoned fields, drywalls, ruderal places; almost flat terrain; open, sunny, dry places; calcareous ground, elevation 30 m (100 feet); average precipitations 900 – 1.000 mm/year, average temperature 12-14 deg deg C, (Sub-)Mediterranean phytogeographical region. Substratum: stony soil. Comment (applies to Flicks album Helichrysum italicum): Helichrysum italicum is a very aromatic, small Mediterranean shrub. It is a beautiful, widespread and very common plant, many times giving Mediterranean landscape its typical accent and aromatic smell – a true botany hallmark of Adriatic islands similar to Salvia rosmarinus, commonly known as rosemary and Laurus nobilis (bay tree) or Salvia officinalis (common sage). It grows in garrigue, stony pastures, cliffs, dry mountain slopes, stony walls and other ruderal places in the villages along East Adriatic Sea shores including the warmest parts of Slovenia. It is a medical plant used for the dermatological treatment, wound healing and in veterinary medicine. In past times it was used particularly to treat cough and joint ailments for donkeys (former Mediterranean cars). Ref.: (1) A.
