  • notes   This photo shows typical habitat of Camissonia integrifolia - sandy soil derived from granitic alluvium (granite). The species most commonly grows in occasionally disturbed soil along trails (OHV, livestock), road edges (banks), and in open shrub gaps. The typical vegetation type is desert scrub, with Joshua Tree as a distinct and consistent habitat indicator for the species. Camissonia integrifolia often co-occurs with Camissonia strigulosa, C. contorta, and C. campestris within its range. C. integrifolia is fairly distinctive though, especially for larger specimens. Look for leaves with no (or 1 - 3) teeth only, fruits 1 - 2 cm longer than that of the other species, and stems that look shiny/metallic. The branching structure is more regular/symmetrical than the other Camissonia sp.
