Kanin mountain group; next to the steepest, rocky part of the path from Planina Gozdec to Planina Baban; East Julian Alps (Posočje, Slovenia)notes Slo.: trebušasta zvončica - syn.: Campanula notata Schott, Nyman & Kotschy, Campanula pusilla Haenke, Campanula tenella Jord. - Habitat: crevices in northeast oriented, vertical rocks; almost full sun, calcareous bedrock; elevation 1.500 m (4.950 feet), average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 3-5 deg C, alpine phytogeographical region. - Substratum: soil. - Comment: Campanula cochleariifolia is among the nicest species in the genus Campanula. It is a very tender and intensive blue flowering plant of high mountains. Often it occurs in large groups of tens and tens nodding blue bells astonishingly contrasting to white calcareous rocks where they grow. These are really wonderful vistas. - The pictures here show a group of rarely occurring albino version of this species. Flowers lost their blue pigment. They are certainly less picturesque compared to the 'normal' sisters, but they appear to me even more tender and unique. - Ref.: (1) M.A. Fischer, W. Adler, K.
