Endemic nature may be related to the Spokane ice dam floods 12,000 to 15,000 years ago (Chambers, J. Bot. Res. Inst. Texas 12(1):17-23, 2018). Perennial forb that is long lived, taking years before flowering and is positively effected by fire (McKernan, 2004 OSU Master's Thesis).
