INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Jul 17, 2019
  • location   San Gregorio Marsh (San Mateo County, California, US)
  • family Asteraceae
  • notes   A confusing genus! I have labeled these 2019 Grindelia images (salt marsh habitat, woody stems to 2m tall, leaf morphology highly variable) from Pescadero and San Gregorio marshes as G. stricta, seeming a best fit with keys and descriptions from TJM2. However, collections related to these images have been deposited with the Jepson Herbarium as G. hirsitula based on John Strothers Flora of North America treatment which lumps 30 or more reputedly distinct Grindelia 'taxa' (Including G. stricta)all under G. hirsutula based on the high degree of inter-gradation among specimens.
