Liliacea
plant community Tujunga Canyon, CAnotes I grew this plant from seed collected from the Tujunga area of California. At the time, developers had slated the site for destruction and home building. An acquaintance sent me seeds to propagate and perpetuate this gorgeous specimen. Plant ht about 18 inches tall at the horizontal. It has taken 6 years to blooming stage. I originally sowed 10 seeds and ended up with one plant. The large flower dangles at a 90 degree horizontal angle from a rigid 4-inch long pedicel. Notice the long (4 inches) and broad (1 3/4 inches) whorled subulate leaves not found on other NA Turk's cap lilies. The only lily close to leaf shape is the much smaller Lilium columbianum. I also grow a similar leopard lily but the leaves are lanceolate.camera Kodak X760
