notes This is yet another 'downward view' where the open corolla is 'upward-facing' and is rotated by about 90° along a vertical axis...so that the adaxial and abaxial edges of the flower actually correspond to its 'left' and 'right' sides, respectively...while the 2-lobed 'upper lip' appears to the right, while the 3-lobed 'lower lip' appears to the left. This happens fairly often (e.g. see the preceding image, and the 5 images on the left here...though Steve skillfully framed 4 of those images so that the 'upper lip' appears on top and the 'lower lip' on the bottom relative to the viewing rectangle ;-). For further details on this post, see the remarks accompanying the 1st image in this series. Postscript (4/25/20): This is now recognized as a new species, N. inyoensis, per the treatment in: Nancy R. Morin and Tina J. Ayers 'NEW SPECIES AND A NEW VARIETY OF NEMACLADUS (CAMPANULACEAE, NEMACLADOIDEAE) AND A KEY TO THE SPECIES,' Madroño 67(1), 35-60, (23 April 2020). https://doi.org/10.3120/0024-9637-67.1.35 photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
