location
Fort Ord (Monterey County, California, US)family
Polygonaceae
notes Terminal inflorescence cluster with a single open flower. Note that flowers in this species have 3 stamens, each with a two-lobed anther...in contrast to most other members of Chorizanthe which typically have 9 (or sometimes 6) stamens (though the flowers frequently appear to have fewer, because the stamens often unfurl and elongate sequentially in 3's over a period of time, and some anthers fall from the filaments fairly early). Photographed in area J6, per the mapping zones delineated in the 2019 ''Flora of Fort Ord'' by David Styer, who is also a co-author (with Randy Morgan & James Reveal) of the 2014 paper where this Fort Ord endemic was described. Many thanks to David for leading a wonderful visit to see these plants. photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
