plant community Sonoran Desert scrub at 1795' (547m)notes large single stem succulent on flat basin plain of coarse volcanic rhyolitic soil and gravels. This large, (5' 9' tall) mature plant leans decidedly to the southwest as is typical of the species to maximize sunlight on the crown for photosynthesis as well as warming the more tender meristem in winter.
