INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Jun 13, 2011
  • location   Pinnacles National Park (San Benito County, California, US)
  • family Alliaceae
  • notes   Note the relatively open inflorescence, with many pedicels about twice the length of their corollas...which is among the diagnostic characters for the variety micranthum of Allium lacunosum given in the Jepson eFlora key (see couplet 56').

This variety was described by J. T. Howell in 1938 from the Pinnacles, and there is a 1937 isotype record from the area collected by Alice Eastwood & him.

I find the red ovary crests beautiful and intriguing.
