location
At ~8000' elevation, in the Vallecito meadow complex, Sierra San Pedro Martir (Baja California (Norte), Mexico)family
Brassicaceae
notes Fresh flowers of Physaria peninsularis, formerly known as Lesquerella peninsularis. Note the '4 long & 2 short' stamens. The 2016 'Annotated Checklist of the Vascular Plants of Baja California, Mexico' (PDF here) by Rebman, Gibson, & Rich indicates: 'This very rare Baja California endemic is only known from the higher elevation meadows of the Sierra San Pedro Martír and may be threatened by livestock grazing.' Indeed, I only saw a small group of plants here which were apparently disturbed by cattle (i.e. surrounded by cow pies, somewhat disheveled, and covered with dirt, detritus...& mites?). Even so, it's a beautiful and interesting plant...glad I saw it! (And I did my best to get decent photos :-) photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
