INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Jun 21, 2014
  • location   At ~8000' elevation, in the Vallecito meadow complex, Sierra San Pedro Martir (Baja California (Norte), Mexico)
  • family Brassicaceae
  • notes   Lateral ground-view of fruits and senescing flowers of Physaria peninsularis, formerly known as Lesquerella peninsularis.

The 2016 'Annotated Checklist of the Vascular Plants of Baja California, Mexico' (PDF here) by Rebman, Gibson, & Rich indicates:

'This very rare Baja California endemic is only known from the higher elevation meadows of the Sierra San Pedro Martír and may be threatened by livestock grazing.'

Indeed, I only saw a small group of plants here which were apparently disturbed by cattle (i.e. surrounded by cow pies, somewhat disheveled, and covered with dirt, detritus...& mites?). Even so, it's a beautiful and interesting plant...glad I saw it! (And I did my best to get decent photos :-)
