INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Jun 18, 2017
  • location   Meadow northwest of Claraville, Piute Mountain (Kern County, California, US)
  • family Liliaceae
  • notes   Calochortus palmeri flowers were numerous and quite variable in size, many had petals quite pink. Most here were abundantly infested with thrips and fairly chewed up. The thrips (3 of which are barely visible) blended in fairly well with the yellow hairs bordering the glands.

This flower had one stamen that definitely marched to its own drummer!
