habitat 'Sky Island' woodlandsnotes This handsome pair of rattlesnakes was observed and photographed for over four hours as they engaged in ritualized foreplay. The male used short tongue flicks and jerking head movements as he followed the coils of his immobile mate up to her head and back down her coils until he encountered one of his own coils. At that point his whole body spasmed, causing his rattle to click loudly. He rested briefly and then repeated the sequence exactly many dozens of times.keywords: Crotalus, molossus, blacktail, rattlesnake, mating, Huachuca, Sunnyside, rattles, close-up, macro
