INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Apr 19, 2015
  • location   Indian Knob (San Luis Obispo County, California, US)
  • family Polygonaceae
  • notes   Prostrate, divaricately branched habit of Chorizanthe diffusa, growing here in poor sandstone-derived soils along the summit ridge of Indian Knob.

The more northerly populations I'd seen of this species (in the Santa Cruz sandhills and at Ft. Ord) had white flowers (perianths) within the white scarious-margined involcral lobes...but these plants had decidedly yellow perianths.
