INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  May 16, 2015
  • location   San Bruno Mountain (San Mateo County, California, US)
  • notes   Delightfully beautiful leaves of Maianthemum dilatatum.

Many thanks to Doug Allshouse for guiding me to these plants. And as Doug would leadingly ask: ''What month is it??'' To which I'd have to respond: May!! And indeed, a few of these plants were beginning to flower...true to their (Greek generic) name.

San Bruno Mountain is the southernmost recorded station for this species, a fact certain to be pointed out in the upcoming book on the natural history of San Bruno Mountain that Doug and David Nelson are preparing for publication by the California Native Plant Society.
