Lower Trenta valley, between villages Soča and Trenta, 'Na melu' place near Trenta 2b cottage, East Julian Alps (Posočje, Slovenia)notes Slo.: kaduljin pojalnik - syn.: Orobanche lucorum - Habitat: grassland, former pasture, close to mixed wood edge, almost flat terrain, partly sunny, shallow skeletal soil layer over old mountain slope scree, calcareous ground, exposed to direct rain, average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 7-9 deg C, elevation 600 m (1.950 feet), alpine phytogeographical region. Growing about 1 m (3 feet) away of a few Salvia glutinosa plants. - Substratum: skeletal soil. - Comment: Orobanche salviae is generally considered as a rare plant (Ref.:1). Also its distribution is limited to Central European Alps and their foothills. Slovenian Atlas (Ref.:7) states only a few UTM squares, where it had been found until 2001 and corresponding Atlas of Northeast Italy (Friuli Venezia Giulia) (Ref.:8) stats only a single such UTM square. Its stands seem to be in a sharp decline. Only a few locations remain in Germany where it can still be seen and it already disappeared from about two thirds of historically known locations in Switzerland (Ref.:5). Apparently it is (still?) quite frequent in Posočje region where more than ten bew locations have been found during last few years (Ref.:1).
