location
Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Near Weed (Siskiyou County, California, US)notes Mt. Shasta (elev. 14,162 ft.) is one of the world's largest composite volcanos, composed primarily of andesitic lava flows and pyroclastic debris flows from eruptions during the last million years. Shasta (right) has four distinct craters. Shastina (elev. 12,330 ft.) is the large crater seen here on the west flank of Shasta. Shastina devleoped during an eruption about 9,000 years ago, after the end of Pleistocene glaciation, and is not as extensively eroded as the main peak.keywords: earth science, geology, volcano, volcanism, Holocece, Quaternary, eruption
