INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Nov 10, 2013
  • location   Chalk Mountain Ridge, Big Basin Redwoods State Park (Santa Cruz County, California, US)
  • notes   Found crossing the road along the ridge of 'the Chalks', west of Chalk Mountain at approximately 1500' elevation. An excellent reference for this species can be found at this 'California Herps' link. According to the 'California Herps' page, this species is highly aquatic, but is also found away from water. We found this individual high on a ridge where I would guess the closest creek with water would be at least 1/2 mile away, and 500 feet below.
