INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  May 4, 2013
  • location   Zayante Sand Hills (Santa Cruz County, California, US)
  • family Plantaginaceae
  • notes   Inflorescence shot. Note that the substrate for plants in the population is pure sand, which Randy Morgan pointed out to me is a distinctive ecological character of (at least the coast range varieties of) Collinsia bartsiifolia (cf. descriptions in JM2). Indeed, I couldn't think of an instance where I'd seen any other Collinsia species growing in such pure, deep sand...and the other C. bartsiifolia I posted on CalPhotos was growing in a sandy wash in Pinnacles Natational Monument.
