INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Apr 28, 2011
  • latitude 46.33784   longitude 13.57148     View on Google Maps.
  • location   Bovec basin, northeast side of Ravelnik hill above river Koritnica, next to the trail of FWW, East Julian Alps (Posočje, Slovenia)
  • notes   Slo.: volčja jagoda - Habitat: mixed, predominantly broad-leaved trees wood side, flat terrain, cretaceous clastic rock (flysh) bedrock, quite humid and shady place, exposed to direct rain, average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 8-10 deg C, elevation 460 m (1.500 feet), alpine phytogeographical region. - Substratum: soil. - Comment: Growing in groups of many species. Unusual flowers, beauty and deadly poison signify this plant. By careful observation of the pictures one can see that the name ‘quadrifolia’ doesn’t apply consistently. Quite a significant percentage of plants have five leaves instead of four. - Ref.: (1) A.Martinči et all., Mala Flora Slovenije, Tehnična Založba Slovenije (2007), p 729.
