location
Lower Trenta valley, most east meadow on Lemovlje flats, above village Soča, East Julian Alps (Posočje, Slovenia)family
Cupressaceae
notes Slo.: navadni brin - Habitat: Abandoned mountain pasture, almost flat terrain, calcareous ground, warm, dry place, exposed to full sun and rain, average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 6-8 deg C, elevation 880 m (2.900 feet), alpine phytogeographical region. - Substratum: brown soil. - Comment: Growing solitary and in groups, many species. Juniperus communis ssp. communis is a quite long-term pioneer species on former mountain pastures, where beach and spruce forest used to form potential natural vegetation. On Lemovlje the conditions seem to be very favorable for this species. The shrubs grow up to 5 m height, which is a considerable size for this species in alpine phytogeographical conditions.camera Canon G11, 6.1-30mm/f2.8-4.5
