location
Keystone Canyon (San Bernardino County, California, US)family
Apocynaceae
notes Upper stem of Asclepias asperula with withered, dihisced, fruit capsules. I photographed this plant in flower very nearby in 2005 (see here). Note the leaves are positioned one per node, rather than oppositely or in whorls. They're also relatively narrow, glabrous, and glossy, compared to A. erosa, which also grows in the vicinity. (A. subulata and A. nytaginafolia grow in the general region as well...but are very distinctive and couldn't be easily mistaken for the other two.)photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
