  • notes   TJM 1&2 both describe this plant as having herbage which is ashy hairy. I have no idea what this could mean but for this is not in the least intuitive. One might expect something about this plant to be pappilate, and, in fact the leaves have very short hairs which feel more like a roughened surface which I suggest may be the reaon behind the plants name.
