  • location   Alta Sierra subdivision-natural west-facing slope (Nevada County, California, US)
  • family Apocynaceae
  • notes   Native milkweed drowning in a relentless sea of nonnative weeds including nonnative brome grasses, dogtail grass (Cynosurus echinatus) and rosy clover (Trifolium hirtum or more appropriately, 'hurt 'em'). Despite seed production every year, population has not increased in ten years. This year however, monarch butterfly caterpillars were observed on the plants. (Photos pending)
