location
Havasu Creek. Grand Canyon National Park (Coconino County, Arizona, US)notes These speleothems -- deposits of calcium carbonate commonly found in limestone caverns -- occur here on the wall of the canyon at Havasu Creek along the Colorado River. The geological section here includes many thousands of feet of limestone. The units toward the bottom of the section overlaying the impermeable Proterozoic metamorphics are characterized by many springs rich in calcium carbonate. These springs produce many deposits of travertine.keywords: Geology, Earth Science, spring, travertine, petrology, deposition, limestone, speleothem
