INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Apr 10, 2010
  • location   West of pass between Del Puerto Canyon and San Antonio Valley (Santa Clara County, California, US)
  • family Asteraceae
  • synonyms Coreopsis stillmanii
  • notes   Detail of flower head. Note the hairs at the base of the involucre, and what appear to be minute glandular teeth at the lower base of the middle 'outer phyllary' (or bract)...a distinguishing character for Leptosyne (Coreopsis) stillmanii in the JM2 key. The FNA treatment, states that the ''calyculi'' (= outer bracts/phyllaries) are ''ciliolate near bases'' in Coreopsis stillmanii, which seems to agree with the image here.
