notes Habitus of flowering Eriophyllum ambiguum var. paleaceum (larger plant at upper right) growing side-by-side with Syntrichopappus fremontii (smaller plant at lower left). At a cursory glance, they might be mistaken for the same plant here. Note that Eriophyllum ambiguum var. paleaceum is a more open, lanky, plant with flower heads typically having 8 longish ligules with roughly parallel sides. Syntrichopappus fremontii is usually a more compact plant with flower heads typically having 5 shorter, more oval ligules, and generally fewer disk florets than E. ambiguum var. paleaceum.photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
