  • notes   This old canyon live oak (Quercus chrysolepis) stem gall has had its shape altered by inquilines (guest larvae). The inquiline chambers are located around the bulbous tip of the gall and their exit holes are visible here. Normally this is a monothalamous gall whose larva is located closer to the base of the gall (where there is a larger exit hole visible here as well).
