  • notes   The two males in the series. Male parental care is an uncommon trait in anurans. But in Rhinoderma darwinii the males guard the eggs, which are laid on damp ground. When the embryos begin to develop the male 'swallows' them, keeping them in their modified vocal sac. When the eggs have hatched the male ejects the small tadpoles into the water, where they continue developing on their own.
