habitat Chaparral consisting of Manzanita, Ceanothus, Scrub Oak. Granitic outcroppings frequent and close together.notes This lizard is a male in mating colors. I spend alot of time watching these lizards and have noted a few things. They get along well with Sceloporus occidentalis. I have seen them cozied up together before, side by side. (I wonder if they can interbreed, because we have a few fence lizards around here that have tail markings like S. orcutti, but body markings more like S. occidentalis. Body shape and size more like a large Fence Lizard.) They eat alot of ants, but especially like winged ones. Maybe this is unique to these lizards here, I really don't know. They spend 99% of their time sunning on boulders and seem to have their own particular boulders that they defend, but not so bad that they don't ever over lap.keywords: Sceloporus orcutti, Granite Spiny Lizard
