Bovec basin, right bank of river Soèa near Podklopca settlement, East Julian Alps (Posoèje, Slovenia)notes Slo.: navadni volèin, bela razlièica - Habitat: Light mixed wood with bushes, growing on young pebble deposits of river Soèa, calcareous ground, shallow soil with much mosses, mostly in shade, humid ground, partly protected from direct rain by tree canopies, average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 8-10 deg C, elevation 350 m (1.150 feet), alpine phytogeographical region. - Substratum: soil with much wood debris and mosses overgrown. - Comment: According to ref.: (2) a very rare white form of otherwise common red D. mezereum. - Ref.: (1) A.Martinèi et all., Mala Flora Slovenije, Tehnièna Založba Slovenije (2007), p 376. (2) M.A.Fischer, W.Adler, K.Oswald, Exkursionsflora Oesterreich Liechtenstein, Suedtirol, LO Landesmuseen, Linz, Austria (2005), p 600. ------------------------------------------- Note that this is actually neither a subspecies (D. mezereus ssp. alba) of a variety (D. mezereun var. alba) of D. mezereum but only a rare form of it (D. mezereum fo. alba) . Unfortunately CalPhotos allows only var. or ssp. to be inputted into the form. So, I put it as 'var.'.camera Nikon D700 / Nikkor Micro 105mm/f2.8
