location
Partial shade (oaks) near sandstone outcrop, La Purisima Mission State Historic Park, north of Lompoc. (Santa Barbara County, California, US)family
Asteraceae
notes Lower Purisima Hills are generally mantled with white sand blown up from the sea shore long ago. But I've founds this species twice, both times near sandstone outcroppings, presumably the source of eroding sand that this species prefers. Smith (A Flora of Santa Barbara Region) says 'rocky places... in Santa Ynez Mountains.'photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
